Have you heard the Electric Dying Bird? It is in fact a real thing. It is a loud speaker loaded up with an endless loop of distressed bird calls designed to repel birds. We first noticed the 24 hour loop from the rooftop of 538 Johnson Ave in Bushwick Brooklyn New York. It was years like that. Caw Caw Kikikiki Caw Caw.. all day, all night. Listening for the call was a way to understand the level of the cities sound floor. Sometimes you couldn't hear it with all the trucks and horns and sirens and REAL bird sounds.. but you knew it was always there. At night it was easier to hone onto. Perhaps blasphemously I once claimed it was my religion. While visiting Portland, Maine we heard the same model out in the wild. Of course it was also located near beautiful old buildings we wanted. Just like Brooklyn. I think we heard it in Seattle, Washington too. Anyhow, this album is full of songs I made while living in the continuous presence of The Electric Dying Bird. The album cover photograph was taken by Karen Marx on the very roof from which one can hear the Electric Dying Bird. Bird kite is flown by Bryan Sears. Insane lights on horizon are from Brooklyn Mirage.
